Novatec Thirty wheels issue

I have some issues with my Novatec Thirty disc wheels. Hub is not working properly; I can feel strong friction in my rear hub. Can you help with my problem?

There can be several reasons, from lack of grease, to nuts/side caps being over-tightened, but also unreliable old version of cassette body, which was improved recently.
And that's what I want to focus on: your cassette body.

What I strongly recommend you is to check the type of side caps on your rear hub and that reveals automatically the type of cassette body you have.

You didn’t specify whether you have your rear hub D942SB for standard QR or for 12x142mm through axle.
So let’s go through both options:

  1. If it is for standard QR, please check which type of side cap is there on the drive side (cassette body side). It can be either side cap made of 2pcs or it can be 1pc-side cap, like picture below shows:

  2. If it is for 12x142mm through axle (X12), please check which type of side cap is there on the drive side (cassette body side). It can be either side cap with simple cylindrical shape (also made of 2pcs) or a side cap with cylindrical shape too, but with small flange/skirt on it, like picture below shows:

Based on your answer it can be determined whether your hub needs upgraded cassette body or not.

If there is 2pcs-type of side cap you need new upgraded freehub so that your issue will be most likely solved.

If there is 1pc-type of side caps it means you already have the latest cassette body so you should look for another reason of your problem. If unsure about other reasons, please visit your local bike workshop and have it fixed there.

Videos below instruct you on how to disassemble and assemble your hub D942SB so follow it up thoroughly.
